Musée
Maisons-Alfort · Val-de-Marne · Île-de-France

The Fragonard Museum, created in 1766 during the founding of the Royal Veterinary School of Paris, is one of the oldest museums in France. Located in Maisons-Alfort in Val-de-Marne, it constitutes a site museum integrated into the historic domain of Alfort. The museum preserves exceptional collections dedicated to animals, notably in anatomy, skeletons, teratology, and pathology, as well as Fragonard's flayed specimens and natural history collections. Remaining closed to the public until 1991, the museum was renovated in 2008 and offers visitors the atmosphere of a place frozen at the beginning of the twentieth century. It represents a remarkable heritage that has endured through the centuries despite successive relocations and troubled periods of history.
