The Departmental Museum of the Painters of Barbizon is located in the former Ganne inn and the studio-house of Théodore Rousseau, in Barbizon in Seine-et-Marne. It evokes nineteenth-century open-air painting and the Barbizon school, a major artistic movement linked to this rural area of Île-de-France. The museum occupies two buildings and offers annotated collections supplemented by thematic files. It develops a regular program combining guided tours, lectures, temporary exhibitions and educational activities adapted to different audiences. The site also hosts forest walks and themed hikes, connecting art history to the local natural environment.
