The Open-Air Museum is a local history museum located in Villeneuve-d'Ascq, in the North. It recreates a rural village from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, where approximately twenty buildings saved from demolition have been rebuilt: Flemish cottages, chapels, mills, forges and other structures typical of rural architecture. Resident craftspeople perpetuate ancient trades within these dwellings and offer demonstrations of their traditional skills. The site also extends over natural spaces with gardens, pastures populated with domestic animals, and offers seasonal cultural programming including performances, workshops, guided tours and exhibitions.
