Located since 1960 at 12 rue Cortot in one of the oldest buildings on the Butte Montmartre, dating from the 17th century, the Montmartre Museum is dedicated to the history and art of the neighborhood. Its permanent collections trace the vibrancy of Montmartre's studios and cabarets, notably through Suzanne Valadon's studio, and regularly host temporary exhibitions. The venue, formerly a residence and studio for artists such as Renoir, Émile Bernard and Raoul Dufy, retains this vocation as an artistic center. The museum also has gardens inspired by compositions painted by Renoir on the spot, overlooking the Clos Montmartre vineyard, as well as a café-restaurant. Located near the Sacré-Cœur and Place du Tertre, the museum is owned by the City of Paris.
