The Valley Museum, located in the La Sapinière villa built in 1878, is a museum of society, art and history situated in Barcelonnette in Ubaye, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. It traces the history of migrations of the valley's inhabitants: European merchant-peddlers, populations from Piedmont and Italy who came to settle in Ubaye, and especially the Barcelonnettes established in the Americas between 1805 and 1950. Its multidisciplinary collections include fine art works, archaeological and ethnographic collections, as well as naturalist and photographic collections, enriched in particular by acquisitions from Mexico. The museum offers an interactive and audio tour that invites visitors to explore the itineraries and cultural encounters of these "people of travel."
