The Maritime History Museum of Bordeaux, located in the Bassins à flot district, traces twenty centuries of history of the Port of the Moon through its maritime, port, and river dimensions. Its collections, composed of documents, engravings, paintings, ship models, and plans belonging to Bordeaux families, illustrate the city's evolution from the Gallo-Roman period to the present day. The museum highlights the role of historical figures and family lineages in the port's development, as well as Bordeaux's commercial importance in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, notably in the trade of wine, cocoa, sugar, and coffee. Visitors can consult audioguides available in six languages and benefit from a virtual reality experience offering a narrated flyover of the docks. The museum also offers lectures in partnership with the Bordeaux Marinopole collective and testimonies from families whose ancestors participated in the port's history.
