Blaye · Gironde · Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The Museum of Art and History of the Blaye Region is housed in the former civil and military prison of the Blaye citadel, built in 1677 and converted into a bakery in the early 19th century. The museum offers an exploration of seven thousand years of local history through archaeological furnishings discovered in the Vauban citadel and the former Saint-Romain abbey, supplemented by models of the medieval castle and plans showing the evolution of the fortress. The collections also illustrate daily life and bakery activities, accessible through visits to the dungeons and ovens of the historic building. It is located in Blaye in the Gironde department, within the context of the citadel inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The museum offers themed guided tours for groups and school classes, as well as general visits according to a seasonal schedule.
