Musée historique
Laon · Aisne · Hauts-de-France

The Museum of Art and Archaeology of the Laon Region has been housed since 1891 in the former Templars' hotel, in the heart of the medieval city of Laon in Aisne. It brings together more than 2,200 works spanning nearly 700,000 years of history, encompassing regional and Mediterranean archaeology as well as fine arts and decorative arts. The museum offers an archaeological and artistic journey from prehistory through civilizations of the Mediterranean basin. The museum's grounds also house the Romanesque chapel of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, built around 1140 for the Order of the Temple, whose architecture preserves its oldest elements: the original octagon and choir. Access to permanent and temporary collections has been free since January 2023.
