The Birthplace House of François Mitterrand is a memorial museum located in Jarnac, in Charente. Situated at 22 rue Abel-Guy, it preserves the house where he was born in 1916, he who presided over the Republic from 1981 to 1995. The museum presents Mitterrand's childhood and family history through the living rooms, furniture and domestic objects passed down over four generations. It constitutes a testimony to bourgeois and family life in Saintonge-Aquitaine at the beginning of the 20th century, a period that Mitterrand described as formative for him. Designated a House of Illustrious Figures, it remains a place of personal attachment that he visited regularly throughout his life.
