Musée de la soie

Taulignan · Drôme · Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Silk Museum is located in Taulignan in Drôme provençale, in a region marked by an important silk-farming tradition. Since 1730, the town has hosted the first silk-worm breeding establishments, and during the 19th century, it becomes the main center of the sector with around twenty silk mills. The museum presents a collection assembled by an industrialist collector, consisting of machines and objects related to silk manufacturing. Through animated machinery and museography that recreates the historical working conditions, the museum traces the four stages of the transformation of the cocoon into fabric and documents the important local industrial past. The venue also sheds light on the human dimension of this industry and its evolution.
