Ecomusée Maison de Pays en Bresse

Saint-Étienne-du-Bois · Ain · Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Écomusée Maison de Pays en Bresse is an association-run museum located in Saint-Étienne-du-Bois, in Ain, dedicated to rural life in Bresse from the 15th to the 19th century. The site spans over 2 hectares and brings together four traditional buildings that were reconstructed identically after being saved from destruction: a 15th-century residential farm, a 17th-century working farm, a period oven, and a former tile factory. The twelve visitable rooms present collections of everyday objects, traditional costumes, craftsmanship, and ancient agricultural tools. Visits are offered on a free-access basis or by reservation for groups, supplemented by workshops during school holidays and recreational facilities for children. The museum is open in season from April to October.
