Musées de la soierie

Charlieu · Loire · Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Charlieu Museums, housed in the former 18th-century Hôtel-Dieu, bring together two distinct collections: the Silk Museum and the Hospital Museum. The first occupies the former women's ward, converted in 1992 to present the expertise and history of silk production. The second, opened in 1995, preserves intact the historic hospital spaces — men's ward, operating room, care room, laundry, and apothecary. These two museums are connected by the Hôtel-Dieu chapel, featuring an 18th-century gilded wooden high altar listed as a Historical Monument. Located in Charlieu in Loire, this ecomuseum in a rural area holds the official label and offers workshops, guided tours, and demonstrations.
