The Hôtel Cabu, Museum of History and Archaeology, is housed in a Renaissance building constructed in 1550 for Philippe Cabu, whose façade decorated with three superimposed orders constitutes one of the finest architectural testimonies of Orléans. It notably contains the Neuvy-en-Sullias treasure, an exceptional collection of Gallic and Gallo-Roman bronzes. The museum also presents objects and works retracing the history of Joan of Arc and that of Orléans, as well as ancient productions (popular images, copperware, porcelain) and evidence of local industrial activities, including a room dedicated to Loire river navigation. Severely damaged during the bombardment of June 1940, the building underwent restoration for more than twenty years before its reopening to the public. The museum is currently undergoing restructuring, with the development of new archaeology galleries.
