Day 1

Chantilly, France's second-greatest collection

The Château de Chantilly's Musée Condé holds France's second-greatest collection of old master paintings after the Louvre, assembled by the Duke of Aumale — who bequeathed the estate to the Institut de France in 1897 on condition that no work ever leave, whether for loan or rehanging.

Day 2

Senlis, the forgotten royal capital

Fifteen kilometres from Chantilly, Senlis was a royal residence under the Capetians before the court settled elsewhere: the Musée de la Vénerie, housed in the former royal palace, tells the story of another royal passion — hunting with hounds.
