Located in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy, this ensemble comprises three interconnected monuments that represent outstanding examples of Romanesque architecture from the 12th century. The Cathedral, the Torre Civica (civic tower), and the Piazza Grande form a unified urban composition that demonstrates the medieval civic and religious organization of the city. The Cathedral features a distinctive Romanesque design with a façade of white and rose-coloured marble and is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. The Torre Civica, a defensive structure, rises prominently above the surrounding buildings and served administrative functions for the commune. Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997, the site was recognized for its architectural integrity and its significant influence on Romanesque design in the Emilia region and beyond. The preservation of this medieval complex reflects the historical and cultural development of a prosperous medieval Italian city.
