Located in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy, between the towns of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, this cultural landscape encompasses approximately 9,100 hectares of vineyards producing Prosecco wine. The area was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019 in recognition of its outstanding representation of winemaking traditions and landscape management practices that have evolved over centuries. The terrain is characterized by steep hillsides with distinctive ridge-and-furrow patterns created by traditional viticulture techniques, interspersed with villages, farmhouses, and terraced vineyards that reflect centuries of human adaptation to challenging geography. The landscape demonstrates a unique interaction between human activity and natural environment, where viticultural practices have shaped the visual and ecological character of the region since at least the medieval period. The site's cultural value lies in its testimony to sustainable land management and the preservation of traditional methods of wine production that continue to define the area's identity and economy.
