The George Sand and Black Valley Museum, established in La Châtre in Indre, is a literary and territorial museum. It preserves a collection of approximately 6,000 works and documents, spanning from Antiquity to the contemporary period, distributed across fine arts, graphic arts, archaeology, natural history, arts and popular traditions, as well as a Sand collection dedicated to George Sand. The museum closed its doors in September 2025 to undertake a major renovation and expansion project on the site of the Hôtel de Villaines and Raymonde Vincent square, covering an area of 2,400 m². Its reopening is scheduled between 2029 and 2030. During this construction period, the museum continues its activities through traveling and virtual exhibitions.
