Musée d'histoire locale
Fromelles · Nord · Hauts-de-France

The Museum of the Battle of Fromelles, located in the North in Hauts-de-France, is dedicated to the battle fought on July 19 and 20, 1916 between British and Australian divisions against a Bavarian division. The museum presents a permanent exhibition titled "From Shadow to Light," tracing the course of this battle and the history of soldiers who went missing on the battlefield. The project was built around major archaeological discoveries: in 2009, the exhumation of 250 bodies of British and Australian soldiers led to a vast identification campaign whose results the museum documents. The museum also offers temporary and traveling exhibitions exploring military remains and testimonies from the Great War. Labeled since 2023, the establishment combines historical, archaeological, and memorial approaches.
