Musée d'art
Allex · Drôme · Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
The Spiritan Museum of African Arts, opened in November 2018, is located in Allex in Drôme, within the Spiritan community of Saint-Joseph. It presents collections assembled by missionaries of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit since the 19th century, primarily from Gabon, Congo-Brazzaville, and Congo-Kinshasa. The works preserved testify to the life, traditions, and beliefs of the populations of equatorial Africa from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, covering both everyday aspects and the sacred realm, notably including masks and statues. Designed according to contemporary conservation standards over 200 square meters, the museum is intended as a space for dialogue open to all, promoting the discovery and respect of African cultural and spiritual wealth.
